Mary Lou had the focus, energy, taste level, and compassion that I needed to make a move to Florida on very short notice. At the time, I knew only the more famous places like Palm Beach, Boca, Sarasota, and the Keys. I explained my need for a home in a beautiful uplifting oasis amongst intelligent retired professionals who were relatively healthy. She introduced us to Vero Beach, also finding us a broker in Palm Beach and Boca so that we could explore all options. We spoke and texted daily. I read an article written by Realtor Mary Lou Ciambriello on her Facebook page. We are Facebook friends. The article stressed the importance, but often unheeded advice to deep clean and stage one's house before putting it on the market. When I was looking for a home, many houses I visited were dirty and cat-box smelly. One seller didn't even pick up their dog's poo which was all over the basement. A friend who accompanied me on my search said the house I purchased was the only home she'd consider using the bathroom. Me too! If your house is untidy and in poor showing condition, don't blame the Realtor if it does not sell. Your house is a turnoff. There's no judgment here, just confirmation of Mary Lou's advice. Everyone wants top dollar for their home. A buyer of your home wants to feel excited about their purchase. A clean home makes a very positive impression according to Mary Lou. My daughter who lives in Minnesota, is (was) an "Open House Junkie." Even if you tell yourself you're just looking, odds are eventually you're going to find a property you can't resist. That was exactly what happened to my daughter and son-in-law! They found a home they loved and put in an offer. The offer was contingent on the sale of their house. Suddenly, they had to sell their home and fast. I shared Mary Lou's article. They took it to heart. Though they made many smart improvements to their house over the years, their home was very lived in and they were accumulators. But they were determined to get top dollar. Lots of muscle was needed to remove items no longer used. They hired someone to do detailed cleaning. All windows were scrubbed.
